cool! the tale of mad king ludwig was always facinating to me! the castle in disney's film cinderella is supposed to be modeled after it!

ya he was a very strange character! Some say a gay man who thought he was a werewolf. What have you heard?

And you are right about Disney :P

well his the guy who owned and built the castle was a kind with a few screws loose (actually he was reclusive and merely eccentric.) ludwig the 2nd was the designer of the castle. He made it as a retreat for his good friend richard wagner the famous composer.he was born in bavaria in august of 1845, became king of bavaria at the young age of 18 after his father(king maximillian) died. He was as mentioned earlier a huge admirer of richard wagner. he was to wed duchess sophie of bavaria in 1867 but cancelled it that october.he had close relationships with men which he wrote about in a diary (he was obviously a homosexual, and wrote about how he struggled with it during his life [he was also a roman catholic])in 1869 he laid the cornerstone for neuschwanstein castle set on a mountain top overlooking his childhood home. the walls of the castle were decorated with frescos inspired by wagners operas. well anyway ludwig was a very colorful and slightly disturbing character, and was found drowned. it was ruled a suicide but this was in question because ludwigII was a very strong swimmer. that i got from a wikipedia article. that's just a small sample, but granted ludwig was a very interesting character at least (I'm surprised no ones made a movie about him yet. ) I found a great shot from the air of the castle on wikipedia too! I'm sure if you read it you'll find out just how strange and interesting he was!
